More security guards have been sent to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi because Bushra Bibi is getting out. The jail staff will finish the necessary paperwork after they get the order for her release.
Bushra Bibi was in jail for nine months. She was given a 14-year sentence in the Toshakhana case on January 31 this year. But the Islamabad High Court stopped her sentence, and then she was arrested again for another case called Toshakhana Two.
Yesterday, the Islamabad High Court said Bushra Bibi could go home for now. She is the wife of Imran Khan, a former prime minister who is in jail. The judge, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, agreed to let her out during a meeting on Wednesday. Bushra Bibi must pay a bond of one million rupees.
This decision is good news for Bushra Bibi, but she still has to deal with questions about how state gifts were handled. During the meeting, Justice Aurangzeb asked the officer from the Federal Investigation Agency if they needed to ask more questions to Bushra Bibi.
The officer said that they did not need to ask any more questions, so the judge let Bushra Bibi go home.
The judge talked about how other countries handle gifts too. For example, the British Prime Minister has also taken gifts home, and there are rules about it. The judge mentioned that in Azerbaijan, they show gifts in museums. The only picture of a Pakistani leader in a museum is of Benazir Bhutto.
The Toshakhana case is about Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. They are accused of selling gifts they got from other countries’ leaders.
The court was supposed to decide about Imran and Bushra on the same day, but the hearing was delayed because of safety worries. It was first planned to happen at Adiala Jail but was moved to Islamabad’s Judicial Complex.
Even after the move, there were still safety concerns, so the court rescheduled the hearing for October 26.
