Israeli Hospital Raid in Gaza Concludes After Days of Conflict, Leaves “Heavy Cost,” Says WHO Chief

Israeli forces finished a raid at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza on Saturday, but it was very costly, according to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the leader of the World Health Organization.

He mentioned that around 44 male healthcare workers were taken from the hospital on Friday night, leaving only women staff and one male doctor to care for almost 200 patients who really need help.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the hospital director, shared that his son was sadly killed by Israeli shelling while trying to check if the military had left the area.

Tedros called the situation in northern Gaza “catastrophic” and said it was awful that hospital equipment and supplies were damaged during the raid.

The Israeli military entered the hospital area twice in one day and fired at parts of the building, as reported by the Gaza health ministry and Dr. Safiya.

On Friday night, about 600 people were in the hospital, including patients and staff. Tedros noted that at least four staff members got hurt.

He explained that the health system in Gaza has faced many attacks for over a year. Tedros stressed that hospitals should always be safe from fighting.

He said that attacking hospitals is against international law and urged for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. He believes that lives depend on it!
